The numbers
Sindhu has never beaten An: this was her 11th straight loss to the Korean. ANI lists Sindhu at world No. 11. It also reported that this was An's 50th straight match win, her 10th title of the year and her fourth French Open crown. Sindhu, who won the Japan Open in July, missed out on a second title this year.
Aparna Popat, in 1998, is the last Indian woman to win the French Open singles title. Saina Nehwal was runner-up in 2012.
The next BWF event, the HYLO Open (Super 500), runs from 27 October to 1 November in Saarbrücken, Germany. It is not yet confirmed whether Sindhu will play.
