A young Telangana sprinter made his mark at the national junior meet. On Saturday, the second day of the 41st National Junior Athletics Championships at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, Lodenge Ramu set a national record in the boys' under-18 400m.
A decade-old record falls
- Ramu won gold in 46.80 seconds.
- He broke the 46.99-second national record set by Chandan Bauri in 2015.
- He also beat the meet record of 47.48 seconds set by Sayed Sabeer last year.
The podium
Maharashtra's Manas Shinde took silver in 47.24 seconds and Haryana's Aditya took bronze in 47.79. Three other national and meet records also fell on the same day.
A run like this at junior level can open the door to bigger stages for Ramu.
