The Telangana Schools and Technical Colleges Employees Association has urged the state government to fill approximately 3,000 vacant faculty posts in state universities. The association highlighted the shortage of teaching staff across various institutions.

The association questioned the government's proposal to recruit only 500 faculty members, stating that this number is insufficient to address the existing vacancies. They emphasized that many posts would remain unfilled.

In a letter addressed to the special chief secretary of education, the association said the faculty shortage is negatively impacting the quality of education, academic activities, research, and the future of students.

Many universities are currently relying on contractual faculty members to manage their academic responsibilities, according to the association. This dependency further exacerbates the challenges faced by higher education.

The association also called upon the state government to regularize the services of contract teachers and extend the UGC 7th Pay Commission scales to them.
