Contract teachers working in 12 State universities across Telangana staged a dharna outside the office of the Telangana Council for Higher Education (TGCHE) in Hyderabad on Thursday, October 15. They demanded the regularisation of their services and the implementation of the 'equal work, equal pay' principle.

The protesting teachers called for job security and the extension of all employment benefits enjoyed by permanent staff. They expressed their distress over not receiving proper recognition or remuneration despite working on a contract basis for decades.

A large number of teachers gathered outside the TGCHE office, raising slogans to bring their demands to the government's attention. They made it clear that their agitation would continue until their issues are resolved.

Contract teachers play a crucial role in addressing the shortage of teaching staff in State universities. However, the lack of proper remuneration and job security has led to financial difficulties for their families.

This protest once again highlights the long-standing issues faced by contract employees in the higher education sector of the state. The teachers are urging the government to consider their demands and take appropriate action.
