Six members of the American Congress have alleged that the Indian Embassy in Washington and its consulates in other US cities deployed photographers to monitor individuals protesting in support of the CJP. The lawmakers making these claims include Pramila Jayapal, Ilhan Omar, Jim McGovern, Rashida Tlaib, Eleanor Holmes Norton, and Jesus Garcia.
These lawmakers sent a letter to US Secretary Rubio, requesting him to address with Indian representatives the allegations of excessive force used during student protests in Delhi and other parts of India.
The letter also expressed concern over the deletion of 13 crore voters. They urged Secretary Rubio to discuss these matters with India's External Affairs Minister Jaishankar.
India's Ambassador to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, strongly criticized Pramila Jayapal's statements. He described her remarks as an unacceptable interference in India's internal affairs.
Democratic leader and former White House advisor Ajay Jain Bhutoria also severely criticized Pramila Jayapal regarding the letter sent to Secretary Rubio. He stated that these allegations constitute interference in internal matters.
Secretary Rubio is scheduled to meet with External Affairs Minister Jaishankar in India next week. These issues are expected to be part of their discussions.
