The highly anticipated film 'Varanasi', featuring Superstar Mahesh Babu and directed by S.S. Rajamouli, has secured a major deal for its OTT rights. Netflix, a leading digital platform, acquired the streaming rights for Rs. 650 crore.
The film's budget is estimated to exceed Rs. 1000 crore, according to film industry sources. The OTT deal alone accounts for over 80 percent of the film's production costs, recovered even before its theatrical release.
This action-adventure thriller, set against a backdrop of time travel and the Ramayana, is being produced with one of the highest budgets in Indian cinema history.
Industry sources stated that 'Varanasi' has already recovered Rs. 850 crore through its OTT, satellite, and audio rights. This marks a substantial pre-release recovery for the film.
