The historic Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium in Vijayawada is embarking on a significant transformation. Plans are underway for a comprehensive renovation of the stadium, with an estimated cost of Rs. 60 crores, aimed at enhancing sports infrastructure across the state, as reported by Telugu360.
Officials are accelerating efforts to modernize this decades-old facility with state-of-the-art amenities, intending to host national and international sporting events in the future.
As part of this extensive renovation project, the first phase of work is already progressing rapidly. Telugu360 states that Rs. 19 crores, sanctioned under the central government's prestigious Khelo India scheme, are being allocated for these initial phase works.
Phase 1 includes the intensive construction of an international-standard 400-meter synthetic athletic track, a football field with advanced artificial turf, and brand new tennis and basketball courts.
Upon completion, this renovation will provide modern facilities for athletes in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. This will foster regional sporting talent and help them excel on national and international platforms.
