The Visakhapatnam ITI cluster is set to receive a substantial ₹200 crore upgrade, a move expected to significantly boost technical skills in the region. This project aims to provide students with enhanced training and industry-relevant expertise.
A shareholders’ agreement has been signed between the Centre, the Andhra Pradesh government, and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) to formalise the partnership and advance the project towards implementation. This collaboration underscores a concerted effort to strengthen technical education.
Notably, the Visakhapatnam cluster was the first in the country to receive approval for its Strategic Investment Plan under the scheme. This highlights the region's pioneering role and potential in technical skill development.
The planned upgrades encompass modern training workshops and laboratories, industry-relevant equipment, updated curricula, the introduction of new trades, hands-on practical training, and improved instructor training. These enhancements are designed to create a comprehensive learning environment.
AM/NS India will implement the project with academic and technical support from the New Age Makers’ Institute of Technology (NAMTECH). A dedicated Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) will be established to manage the upgrade and ongoing operations.
This upgrade is poised to create better employment opportunities for the youth in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana by equipping them with skills aligned with modern industrial demands. It will also contribute to the regional economy by fostering a skilled workforce.
