The first edition of the 'Wanaparthy Champions Cup' began on Friday at the Polytechnic College grounds in Wanaparthy. The State Sports Authority is organizing this multi-discipline event.

Athletes representing 15 mandals are participating in the competition. The cup features seven different sports: cricket, kabaddi, volleyball, football, tug-of-war, carroms, and chess.

The opening ceremony included a tribute to the legendary hockey player Dhyan Chand. His portrait was garlanded, and a ceremonial torch was lit to mark the start of the games.

After the sports flag was hoisted, Reddy and Surabhi officially inaugurated the games by participating in a tug-of-war. The first cricket match was played between teams from Kothakota and Revalli mandals.

Competitions for volleyball, football, kabaddi, carroms, and chess also commenced at the Government Boys’ School grounds. The volleyball tournament started with a match between teams from Wanaparthy and Panagal.
