Despite West Indies securing a 24-run victory over India in the fourth T20I in Hyderabad, their conduct in the closing moments of the match drew criticism from former Bengal cricketer Shreevats Goswami. He stated that their approach went against the spirit of the game.
Goswami specifically questioned Shamar Joseph’s decision to continue bowling short deliveries at Arshdeep Singh in the final over, especially when India had no realistic chance of pulling off a comeback.
At that point, India needed 35 runs off the final over and had just one wicket remaining, with Arshdeep on strike and Mayank Yadav at the non-striker’s end.
Even with the result all but decided, Joseph unleashed short-pitched deliveries directed towards Arshdeep’s body. This action was deemed unsporting by Goswami.
The incident in Hyderabad, despite West Indies' victory, has sparked debate among cricket enthusiasts regarding the importance of upholding the spirit of the game. It serves as a reminder of the need for fair play in sports.
