Andhra Pradesh has given its consent to the Nakkalagandi project during the Southern Zonal Council meeting held on August 20 in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
During the meeting, the Special Chief Secretary of the AP Water Resources Department conveyed the state government's stance. He spoke on behalf of Andhra Pradesh during discussions on the Godavari-Krishna-Penna-Cauvery river interlinking project proposed by the Centre.
However, Andhra Pradesh has made its agreement conditional, stating that Telangana must consent to the Polavaram-Banakacherla interlinking project, which AP has undertaken. The Special CS for Water Resources clarified that Palamoor and Nakkalagandi are integral parts of the Polavaram-Banakacherla link.
AP Chief Minister Chandrababu requested a discussion on all projects, not just Palamoor. The Telangana Deputy Chief Minister emphasized that any resolution should not compromise the state's interests.
The Central Water Commission (CWC) stated that if the Godavari-Cauvery interlinking issue is resolved, all other problems would also be addressed.
