ZPTC nominations in Nandalur, Kadapa district, turned violent on Thursday. Supporters of Rajampet TDP in-charge Chamarthi Jaganmohan Raju clashed with a faction led by Meda Vijaya Sekhar Reddy. Shots were fired, two cars were set on fire and several motorcycles were damaged. It is not yet clear who fired the shots.

Special Branch constable Manoj suffered minor injuries. Members of both factions and some police personnel were also reported injured. News agency IANS described it as a clash between rival TDP groups.

What the YSRCP says

The YSRCP alleges its candidates are being stopped from filing nominations. It says nomination papers of its candidates were torn in Penukonda in Sri Sathya Sai district and in Giddaluru, and that the incidents were caught on video. It also alleges that three of its leaders were attacked in Nizampatnam in Bapatla district.

What the TDP says

The TDP rejected the charges. Party spokesperson Kommareddy Pattabhi said the YSRCP had filed more nominations than the TDP in many places. He accused the YSRCP of trying to disrupt the polls because it fears defeat. He said Collectors and Superintendents of Police will report to the State Election Commission on alleged obstruction in 19 places.

YSRCP president and former CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will address the media at the party's central office in Tadepalli at 11 AM on Friday. He is likely to speak on the State Election Commission and a Supreme Court verdict. Polling for the MPTC and ZPTC seats is on November 3.
