BRS leader and former minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav said the voter registration process for the Graduates' MLC elections is deeply flawed. Speaking in Hyderabad on Saturday, he said only 23,000 applications have been received in Hyderabad district so far.

The BRS objections

  • People who voted in earlier elections are asking why they must register again, Talasani said. He said needless hurdles are causing hardship.
  • The BRS will meet the Chief Electoral Officer on Monday about these problems.
  • The party will step up its registration drive from Sunday and hold constituency-wise meetings over the next two days. He urged all eligible graduates to register.

Attack on El Niño preparedness

Talasani said the Congress government did not prepare for El Niño and that CM A. Revanth Reddy is busy attacking the opposition. He said K. Chandrashekar Rao used to assess the situation a year in advance. He said the BRS government bought power at ₹3.90 a unit, and that a neighbouring state paid ₹15 a unit while the CM claimed power was not available in the market. He predicted voters would remove the Congress government within two years.

The government's position

On Friday, the CM said El Niño had left reservoirs low, that there will be no irrigation water next season, and that drinking water will get priority. He blamed the previous BRS government's decisions for higher costs and delays at the Yadadri thermal plant. Election officials have not yet responded to the BRS charges on registration.
