BRS MLC Dr. Dasoju Sravan on Monday called for a special package of Rs 20,000 crore to address the drought conditions in Telangana. He conveyed this demand in an open letter addressed to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

Following the establishment of a six-member sub-committee to examine the state's drought situation, Sravan urged for a special session of the Telangana Assembly and Legislative Council. He emphasized the need to pass an emergency supplementary budget to tackle the El Niño-induced drought.

The BRS MLC criticized the Congress government, alleging delays in taking action despite prior warnings of insufficient rainfall. He labeled the sub-committee as a diversionary tactic, pointing out its lack of a deadline, dedicated funds, and representation from the Municipal Administration Department.

Sravan also claimed that over 1,000 TMC ft of Pranahita floodwater flowed downstream because the government failed to operate pumps at Kannepalli. This failure has caused distress among farmers in North Telangana, he added.

He highlighted concerns regarding power shortages, expensive open-market electricity purchases, and diminishing coal reserves at the Yadadri thermal power station. Sravan pressed the government to address these critical issues promptly.
