BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao said the party will protect Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and its workers. "BRS will safeguard Singareni from privatisation and corruption," he said. He spoke on Thursday at Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad, at a meeting with party MLAs, former MLAs, Singareni-area leaders and Telangana Coal Mine Workers' Union representatives. The meeting followed the party's "Singareni Karmika Garjana" rally in Godavarikhani.

What KTR said

  • He asked leaders to question the Congress government on the company's finances, falling coal production, alleged tender irregularities and dues owed to SCCL.
  • He said both the Congress state government and the BJP-led Centre should be held to account on Singareni.
  • He said the party will not stay silent if workers face injustice, and a joint struggle may be needed.

The meeting also discussed preparing BRS and TBGKS cadres for the upcoming Singareni trade union elections.

The government's side

No fresh government response to Thursday's remarks has been reported. On October 15, Minister D. Sridhar Babu said there is no plan to privatise Singareni. He said tenders are being held transparently and blamed BRS-era policies for the fall in production. He alleged the previous government treated Singareni "like an ATM" and left behind thousands of crores in arrears.
