The Central government has taken a decision regarding the Polavaram and Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation projects. The Centre has decided that water disputes between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana should be resolved through mutual agreement.
This matter came to light during the Southern Zonal Council meeting. Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired this meeting.
Andhra Pradesh has given its consent to the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation project. Telangana requested the Centre to grant approval for this project.
Similarly, Telangana has approved the Polavaram-Banacherla project. Andhra Pradesh requested the Centre to grant approval for this project.
The Centre has taken the initiative to resolve the water disputes between the two states. Officials stated that this decision will benefit both states.
During the meeting, held in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Special CS of the Water Resources Department from both states presented their arguments.
