The central government is attempting to pass a constitutional amendment bill for delimitation that includes women's reservation. However, demands from the DMK and YSRCP for the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar could hinder this process.
The bill requires a two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha for approval. The support of the DMK and YSRCP is currently uncertain for the NDA's efforts to secure this.
Both the DMK and YSRCP are demanding the removal of CEC Gyanesh Kumar. This demand has become an obstacle to the central government's legislative agenda.
There are speculations that the BJP has approached the DMK for support on the delimitation issue. The DMK has 22 Lok Sabha MPs.
Although the YSRCP is not part of the NDA alliance, it has previously supported several controversial government bills, including the Election Commissioners' Appointment Act.
Political circles anticipate that without the support of these two regional parties, the bill's passage will be challenging.
