Clashes have occurred in Kadapa and Tirupati districts, following incidents in Punganur, as the nomination process for local body polls continues in Andhra Pradesh. The State Election Commission has taken serious note of these developments.
The Election Commission has clarified that it will view complaints regarding obstructions to filing nominations or emerging law and order problems with utmost seriousness. It warned of strict action if such complaints are received.
Disciplinary measures, including transfer, removal from duty, or suspension, will be taken against officials who show negligence in their duties or act in a biased manner, the Election Commission stated.
Election Commissioner Punetha instructed Collectors and District Election Officers to strictly implement these directives. They were also told to submit a report to the State Election Commission detailing the actions taken.
The EC emphasized the need for officials to ensure a smooth and impartial election process. It directed them to take precautions to prevent any undesirable incidents.
Further action will be taken after the report on the implementation of these directives is received, according to Election Commission sources.
