Farmers in Gorapudi, Rambilli mandal, Anakapalli district, have launched a protest against land acquisition. On October 3, officials began fencing work for 416 acres allocated to Laurus Labs, which was obstructed by farmers and leaders of public organizations.

According to Andhrajyothy, police arrested farmers and their relatives, along with CPM leaders, who participated in the protest against the land acquisition.

The protest stems from the authorities' readiness to acquire land without providing compensation or rehabilitation to the affected farmers.

The fencing work is being carried out on lands allocated to Laurus Labs in SEZ Phase-2 within the Gorapudi panchayat.

Farmers have warned that they will resist any attempts to fence their lands without first receiving compensation for their Jirayathi, D-patta, and cultivated lands, and without the construction of a rehabilitation colony or relocation of villages.

This land acquisition significantly impacts the livelihoods of farmers in Anakapalli district, potentially causing severe hardship if proper compensation and rehabilitation are not provided.
