Five young men from Visakhapatnam who went to Russia looking for work are trapped in the Russian army amid the Russia-Ukraine war. Three were sent to the front about two months ago and their whereabouts are unknown, Deccan Chronicle reports. The other two fear they will be deployed within two days.
What they say in the video
- A Nepali man promised them food-packing jobs with the army, they allege.
- They say they were made to sign papers in Russian they could not understand, and were taken towards the border instead.
- "These may be our last words," they say, appealing to Prime Minister Modi to bring them home.
ETV Bharat identifies the young man in the video as Vamsi, from a colony near Duvvada in Gajuwaka mandal, and says he and his friend Satish are the two not yet sent to the front. Vamsi's mother has appealed to the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister.
Government response
Minister Nara Lokesh shared the video on X and told his office to contact the authorities to bring the men home safely. There was no response yet from the Centre or the Ministry of External Affairs. In September 2025, the MEA said it had asked Russia to end the recruitment of Indians and warned citizens that such job offers are dangerous.
