Former Minister and Balkonda MLA Vemula Prashanth Reddy expressed deep shock over the death of small trader Polasa Sudhakar in Bheemgal, who attempted suicide due to alleged police harassment.
Speaking to the media in Hyderabad on Tuesday, he alleged that this was undoubtedly a government killing. According to Andhraprabha Daily, he reacted strongly to the incident.
Prashanth Reddy condemned the police for placing him under house arrest while he was on his way to visit the victim's family, calling it a cowardly act.
He demanded that an ex-gratia of Rs. 25 lakh be announced for Sudhakar's family and that one member of the family be given a government job.
Former Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy also called for a case of attempted murder to be registered against Bheemgal SI Tirupati and for him to be dismissed from duty.
The death of a trader due to alleged police harassment and the subsequent political reactions raise concerns about the law and order situation in the state.
