The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on Sunday issued an advisory to food business operators. It directs them to ensure proper handling, storage, and transportation of perishable food items such as khoa, paneer, meat, and fish.
The FSSAI noted that these perishable food items are sometimes not managed, stored, or transported under appropriate temperature conditions. Such products are susceptible to microbial growth and spoilage if required temperature standards are not maintained.
The advisory mandates that food businesses must maintain specific temperatures throughout the supply chain. This measure aims to control microbial growth and prevent the spoilage of highly perishable products.
Food business operators are required to use hygienic vehicles, food-grade packaging, and implement protection against contamination. They must also maintain proper records to safeguard public health, the FSSAI added.
