The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued notices regarding misleading health claims for 'Freedom Rice Bran Oil'. The notices were sent to Gemini Edibles and e-commerce platforms BigBasket and Flipkart.

The companies promoted the oil by asserting it reduces bad cholesterol and increases good cholesterol. They also claimed the product contains over 10,000 parts per million (PPM) of natural oryzanol.

However, the FSSAI clarified that food regulations from 2018 do not permit such heart-related or cholesterol claims for cooking oils. The authority stated these advertisements violate established norms.

The FSSAI has directed the companies to provide an explanation as to why legal action should not be taken against them. They are expected to respond promptly to these notices.
