Gajwel tahsildar PH Swamy is facing widespread criticism after a video of him allegedly making insensitive remarks to a farmer went viral, as reported by 'The Times of India'. The farmer, Yesu, from Maktha Masanpally village in Gajwel mandal of Siddipet district, had approached the tahsildar's office over a land dispute.
In the viral video, Tahsildar Swamy allegedly asked the farmer, "Are you still alive?" according to 'The Times of India'. This remark reportedly triggered widespread criticism and distress from the farmer, who questioned the official's response to his plight.
When the farmer reportedly asked if Swamy found his situation amusing, the official allegedly replied, "Yes, I do. Of course, I do," 'The Times of India' stated. These remarks drew significant criticism online, with users demanding that senior revenue officials examine the incident.
However, Swamy told 'The Times of India' that the video was old and that the exchange followed repeated visits by Yesu, who had reportedly been seeking compensation for land being acquired for the Regional Ring Road (RRR).
This incident raises serious questions about the accountability of government officials and their conduct with citizens. It underscores the need for officials to be more sensitive in their interactions with farmers, especially concerning delicate matters like land acquisition in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
