The Andhra Pradesh High Court has directed state authorities to pay widow pension arrears from the date of application to eligible beneficiaries. The court ruled that administrative delays cannot deprive eligible beneficiaries of their entitlements.
The High Court has mandated that these arrears must be paid within eight weeks. This ruling brings significant relief to many widows who have been awaiting their pension payments.
State authorities attributed the delay partly to the Model Code of Conduct during the 2024 Lok Sabha and Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, arguing that fresh social security pensions could not be sanctioned during that period.
However, the High Court clarified that an eligible beneficiary cannot be deprived of benefits because officials delayed processing her claim. This judgment ensures justice for those awaiting widow pensions.
This ruling is significant for widows in Andhra Pradesh as it ensures their financial security. The directive to pay arrears from the date of application provides substantial relief to them.
