Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan has identified narcotics, cybercrime, terrorism, illegal immigration, and the use of technology to anonymize crime as the five main internal security challenges for the country. He made these observations on Saturday while addressing the passing-out parade of the 78th batch of IPS probationers at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad.

Mohan stated that the traditional internal security environment has undergone a complete transformation. He noted that violent Left-Wing Extremism has concluded, insurgency in the Northeast has decreased, and homegrown terrorism is now at minimal levels.

However, he cautioned that these threats have not vanished entirely. Recent incidents, including the Red Fort blast in Delhi, indicate that both homegrown and foreign-inspired terrorism continue to present security concerns.

Addressing the IPS probationers, Mohan urged officers to master artificial intelligence and to counter the misuse of social media. He emphasized the importance of adapting to and utilizing advanced technological tools.
