Citizens gathered at Dharna Chowk, outside Indira Park in Hyderabad, on Saturday to protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The protest put forth three major demands: scrapping the SIR, the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar, and the repeal of the Chief Election Commissioner Act.

According to The South First, the protest took place under heavy police presence. Officers reportedly stormed the tent around 3 pm, urging people to disperse.

Several speakers at the gathering criticized the CEC and the Union government. They called the ongoing SIR process a breach of citizens’ rights, as reported by The South First.

Organizers described the event as Telangana’s entry into a growing national campaign against the exercise. They alleged that the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Union government were using SIR to push lakhs of genuine voters off the rolls, The South First stated.

The day-long protest took place on Saturday, October 3, at Dharna Chowk in Hyderabad. Actor Prakash Raj was among those who addressed the gathering.

This protest reflects the concerns among citizens in Telangana regarding the electoral roll revision process. It raises questions about the transparency and integrity of democratic processes in the state.
