Indian tech professionals are returning from the United States due to increased uncertainty in H-1B visa regulations, decades-long waits for green cards, and ongoing layoffs at major American companies. Approximately 12,700 white-collar tech experts have moved back to India from the US in the first nine months of this year.

This trend has been growing over the past few years. In 2023, 7,200 professionals returned, followed by 9,800 in 2024, and 15,100 in 2025. This year is on track to set an all-time record for returns.

The majority of those returning to India are seeking employment opportunities in major tech cities such as Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, and Gurugram. They are actively pursuing jobs within the tech industry in these urban centers.

Policies attributed to Donald Trump are also cited as a reason for this reverse brain drain. These policies are influencing tech professionals to consider returning to their home country.
