Visakhapatnam: Jana Sena leader Addepalli Soujanya, a former councillor, filed her nomination for the Narsipatnam municipal chairperson post on Friday, catching everyone by surprise. Her move comes amid growing discontent within the party over seat-sharing arrangements.
Soujanya, a 35-year-old graduate, was elected as a Jana Sena councillor in the previous municipal council. She earned a reputation for raising public issues and challenging the then ruling council.
She was the only Jana Sena candidate elected to a municipal council in North Andhra in the previous elections, a testament to her dedication and public service.
Soujanya’s decision comes amid growing discontent within Jana Sena over seat-sharing arrangements for the Narsipatnam municipal elections. While the TDP, Jana Sena, and BJP have reached a state-level understanding, Jana Sena leaders allege that local allocations were finalized without adequate consultation.
Jana Sena leaders, who are said to have sought 13 seats, were allocated only three, which has fueled significant resentment within the party ranks.
This development marks a significant turn in Narsipatnam politics. Political observers suggest that overlooking the aspirations of local leaders could potentially harm the party's prospects in the upcoming elections.
