Residents of border areas in Sri Sathya Sai district, Andhra Pradesh, are expressing their desire to merge with Karnataka. The primary reason cited is that the Kannada language has become essential for their livelihood.
The influence of Kannada language and culture is prominently observed in the mandals of Rolla, Agali, Gudibanda, and Amarapuram within the Madakasira constituency. Although officially citizens of Andhra Pradesh, the people in these areas find themselves unable to speak Telugu.
The daily lives of the residents in these villages predominantly involve the use of the Kannada language. Their livelihoods and social interactions are deeply intertwined with Kannada.
Despite residing in Telugu-speaking states, the lack of proficiency in Telugu and reliance on Kannada has led these border village residents to seek a merger.
This situation highlights the linguistic and cultural challenges prevalent in the border regions between Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. There is a clear need to address the linguistic requirements of the local populace.
