Former minister and Warangal East MLA Konda Surekha on Thursday posted on X that she was withdrawing the personal remarks she made in the past against BRS working president K T Rama Rao (KTR), and expressed regret.

What Surekha said

  • She said she should have refrained from some of the baseless remarks she made then.
  • She said she had no intention of hurting KTR or his family members, or of damaging their reputation.
  • She said the remarks came while criticising the opposition in the political climate of the time, and were not deliberate.

Background

In October 2024, as Forest and Environment Minister, Surekha linked KTR to the divorce of actors Samantha and Naga Chaitanya. KTR and actor Nagarjuna filed defamation cases. Siasat reports that Nagarjuna withdrew his case in November 2025 after she apologised to his family, while KTR's case continued. ANI reports she was removed from the Cabinet in September 2026.

KTR's response

"The truth is slowly coming out. Many people made false allegations against us. Many more are ready to apologise," KTR said. Sakshi reports he said he had not yet seen her tweet; Oneindia Telugu reports he would review the remarks and consult his legal team. He did not say whether he would withdraw the case.

ANI reports speculation that Surekha may move closer to the BRS; there is no confirmation. No response from the Congress party has been reported.
