Farmers in Appannapalem, Gorapudi, and Z. Chintuva villages of Rambilli mandal, Anakapalli district, strongly resisted government attempts to acquire land for Laurus Pharma Company on Saturday.

Prajasakti reported that the government resorted to coercion by erecting fencing during the land acquisition process. The same source also stated that a large number of police were deployed, creating a fearful atmosphere.

Police arrested CPM district secretariat member R. Shankara Rao, Rambilli mandal secretary G. Demudu Naidu, mandal committee members Dhoni Kashi, Erripalli Ramu, along with three displaced farmers who supported the farmers, and transferred them to Rambilli Police Station.

Prajasakti noted that the government is taking steps to acquire approximately 576 acres of private and government land from SEZ displaced farmers in the aforementioned villages of this mandal for Laurus Pharma Company.

According to Prajasakti, the farmers have approached the High Court, stating that the compensation announced by the government is insufficient for them.

This land acquisition dispute highlights the ongoing debate between industrial development and farmers' rights in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, potentially setting a precedent for similar projects in the future.
