The Lokayukta has issued significant directives regarding illegal sewage dumping in Kurnool. The body responded to reports of private tankers unlawfully discharging sewage into canals, which then flows into the Tungabhadra river. The Kurnool Municipal Corporation Commissioner, SP, and Pollution Control Board officials have been instructed to address this issue.
As per the Lokayukta's orders, the Kurnool Municipal Corporation Commissioner must inspect the affected canal and surrounding areas. They are tasked with preventing private tankers from illegally dumping sewage, ensuring disposal at authorized facilities, and initiating action against violators in accordance with the law.
The Kurnool SP has also been asked by the Lokayukta to coordinate with the authorities on this matter. The SP is directed to identify the tanker operators involved in illegal dumping and initiate appropriate legal action to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
The environmental engineer of the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board in Kurnool received directives from the Lokayukta as well. They are to inspect the affected areas, collect water samples wherever necessary, and assess the risk of pollution to the Tungabhadra river, besides initiating action according to law.
The Lokayukta emphasized that these three authorities must coordinate and take measures to prevent further discharge of untreated sewage into the canal and the Tungabhadra river. They have been asked to submit separate action-taken reports within 30 days. The matter is posted to November 30 for submission and consideration of these reports.
These directives are crucial for the health of Kurnool residents and environmental protection. These measures will contribute to preventing pollution of the Tungabhadra river and ensuring access to clean water for the public.
