J Appalakonda of Visakhapatnam is asking the Centre and the state government to bring her son, J Vamsi, home from Russia. She says he went there for fruit-packing work and is now in the Russian army.
What the video says
- In a video purportedly showing Vamsi and four other Indians, the men say they were recruited on false job promises and are being deployed near the Russia–Ukraine border.
- They say they were made to sign Russian-language documents they did not understand and were then told they were no longer Indian citizens but Russian.
- They say a Nepali national based in Russia arranged their recruitment.
- Deccan Chronicle and NewsMeter report that three of the five were sent to the front about two months ago and their families have not heard from them since.
Government response
Minister Nara Lokesh wrote on X that it was "heartbreaking to see the plight of our citizens stranded abroad" and said he had asked his office to coordinate urgently with the authorities for their safe and speedy return. There has been no statement yet from the Ministry of External Affairs or the Indian Embassy in Moscow.
The case is a reminder to check recruiting agents carefully before accepting overseas job offers.
