VISAKHAPATNAM, October 16: As the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) elections draw near, residents of Srinivasa Nagar in Madhurawada are expressing concern over the lack of basic civic services, including roads, drainage, and garbage collection.
The roads in Srinivasa Nagar are rutted and strewn with puddles. Residents report that gravel, which was unloaded in August for road-laying, still lies in heaps beside these poor roads.
This unattended gravel obstructs movement and exacerbates the hazardous conditions, especially during rainfall when the roads become even more treacherous.
The drainage system is also inadequate, leading to wastewater accumulating on the roads. Locals are distressed, stating that this poses a significant health risk to the community.
Despite parties and candidates preparing to contest the GVMC elections, residents criticize officials for failing to provide essential amenities in their area.
Timely provision of civic services is crucial for the residents of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The persistence of such issues in a city like Visakhapatnam raises questions about the effectiveness of local governance.
