The Congress government allowed 734 TMC of water from the Godavari River to flow into the sea via the Medigadda Barrage. Hundreds of TMC of water were released downstream within a hundred days. In August alone, 350 TMC of water was released, with an additional 17.69 TMC from Yellampally. The government failed to utilize this water for drinking and irrigation needs.
Critics state that the government is using 'El Nino' as an excuse to cover up its negligence. Citing drought, the government is preparing to prevent farmers from cultivating Yasangi crops. Water continued to flow downstream via Medigadda as of October 20, 2026.
