The convoy of YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Lok Sabha floor leader and Rajampet MP P V Midhun Reddy came under attack in Punganur municipality on Thursday. The incident occurred when Midhun Reddy was accompanying YSRCP candidates and party leaders to file nominations for the local body elections.
The YSRCP alleged that Telugu Desam Party (TDP) workers pelted vehicles with stones and attacked them with sticks and iron rods. Vehicles belonging to YSRCP leaders were also vandalised during the incident.
According to the YSRCP, TDP leaders and workers blocked the convoy and tried to prevent its candidates from reaching the nomination centre. The party condemned the incident, describing it as an attempt on the MP’s life.
The YSRCP further alleged that police personnel present at the scene failed to stop the attackers or protect the candidates. The party is seeking arrests and action against the police personnel involved.
This incident highlights the escalating political tensions in Andhra Pradesh. Such violent acts during the election process undermine democratic principles and the peaceful conduct of elections.
