In the Narsipatnam municipal elections, Padmavathi, wife of Ayyanna Patrudu, is contesting on behalf of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), while Chintakayala Anita, wife of Sanyasi Patrudu, is representing the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). These elections have generated significant political interest in the town.
The Chintakayala family has long wielded political influence in Narsipatnam. The fact that two women from the same family are now opposing each other in the electoral arena has become a major talking point.
These are the third municipal elections since Narsipatnam was upgraded to a municipality. The town has approximately one lakh residents, including 49,099 voters, comprising 23,317 men, 25,778 women, and four transgenders.
The number of wards has increased from 28 to 40, a change that is expected to influence election strategies.
Anita previously served as Narsipatnam's first municipal chairperson after winning the post on a TDP ticket in 2014, when her husband was politically aligned with his elder brother.
These elections reflect the Chintakayala family's continued influence in Narsipatnam's urban politics, as well as the evolving political dynamics among family members. This outcome will impact the future of the local residents.
