The Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Project is facing new hurdles concerning water allocation, Andhrajyothy reported. The expected outcomes for this project are not being realized, as stated in an Andhrajyothy article published on October 8, 2026.
The Central Water Commission (CWC) is showing reluctance to review the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this project, which was granted national status, according to Andhrajyothy.
Andhrajyothy reported that the CWC has previously sent back this DPR twice, hindering the project's progress.
Andhrajyothy revealed that the CWC's renewed reluctance to review the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy project's DPR indicates that an agreement between the two states on the 'Polavaram' share of 45 TMC is inevitable. This relates to the allocation of 45 TMC for minor irrigation.
This project is intended to provide drinking water and irrigation to the Mahabubnagar, Ranga Reddy, and Nalgonda districts of Telangana. These obstacles are causing significant concern for the residents of this region.
The lack of clarity on water allocation for this project could potentially exacerbate water disputes between the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
