Vijayawada: The Pattiseema lift irrigation scheme has diverted over 500 TMC of Godavari floodwaters to the Krishna basin over 1,033 days of operation since its commissioning in 2015, The Times of India reported. This project has played a crucial role in meeting the irrigation needs of farmers in the Krishna delta.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu stated that the project enabled the state to meet the irrigation needs of the Krishna delta using Godavari water, conserving Krishna water stored at Srisailam for diversion to Rayalaseema through projects such as Pothireddypadu and Handri-Neeva, according to The Times of India.

To mark this milestone, farmers from the Krishna delta and representatives of irrigation associations met Naidu at the secretariat on Saturday, along with water resources minister Nimmala Ramanaidu, The Times of India reported.

Built at a cost of Rs 1,651 crore, Pattiseema was designed to divert Godavari floodwaters into the Krishna system and stabilize irrigation supplies to around 13 lakh acres in the Krishna delta, The Times of India reported.

Despite El Niño conditions, the scheme diverted 57.70 TMC over 92 days in 2016. Its highest annual diversion was recorded in 2017, when 105.80 TMC was pumped over 161 days, The Times of India stated.

This scheme provides irrigation security to farmers in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, particularly in the Krishna delta region, by supplying essential water for crop cultivation and helping to increase agricultural output.
