In New Delhi, supporters of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and members of the All India Students' Association (AISA) staged protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the withdrawal of the special summary revision of electoral rolls, and the repeal of the 2023 Election Commissioners Appointment Act. These demonstrations took place at Connaught Place and Mandi House.
Prior to the protests, CJP founder Abhijeet Deepke and AISA president Neha Bora were taken into custody by the police. These arrests occurred before the planned 'Lehra Do Tiranga' (Let's Hoist the Tricolor) event at Connaught Place.
Amidst a heavy police presence, protesters participated in the demonstration holding national flags. They marched through the inner circle of Connaught Place, chanting 'Jai Hind' intermittently. Some also sang the national anthem.
The protesters dispersed and reassembled at different locations. At Mandi House, students and AISA members conducted a flash protest, vociferously raising their demands.
These protests have sparked a discussion on the transparency of democratic processes and the necessity of electoral reforms. People in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana also seek transparency in the electoral process, making these developments of interest to them.
