In New Delhi, amidst a heavy police presence, supporters of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and members of the All India Students' Association (AISA) held protests at Connaught Place and Mandi House in Central Delhi. Several participants in these demonstrations were taken into custody by the police.
Students and AISA members staged a flash protest at Mandi House, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, the withdrawal of the special summary revision (SSR) of electoral rolls, and the repeal of the 2023 Election Commissioners Appointment Act.
Police sources stated that CJP founder Abhijeet Deepke and AISA president Neha Bora were taken into custody by police on Friday, prior to the 'Lehra Do Tiranga' (Hoist the Tricolor) protest planned at Connaught Place.
Protesters walked through the inner circle of Connaught Place, shouting 'Jai Hind' slogans intermittently, dispersing and reassembling at different locations. Some also sang the national anthem.
These protests reflect ongoing demands for transparency and accountability in the democratic process. These incidents once again highlight the perceived necessity for electoral reforms.
