Nomination withdrawals for Andhra Pradesh's MPTC and ZPTC elections closed on Tuesday afternoon. Where only one candidate was left, officials declared that candidate elected unopposed. In Pulivendula, former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy's home constituency, NDA candidates won 64 of 65 MPTC seats and 3 of 7 ZPTC seats without a vote.
Where and how many
- Vempalli mandal: 17 of 18 MPTC seats unopposed (TDP 15, BJP 1, Jana Sena 1). Only Allireddypalle goes to a vote.
- Pulivendula municipality: the TDP won 20 of 40 wards unopposed.
- Proddatur: 23 of 24 MPTC seats to the NDA (TDP 20, Jana Sena 3), ETV Bharat reported.
- Kurnool district: 74 of 432 MPTC seats unopposed – TDP 54, YSRCP 19, BJP 1. 907 candidates contest the other 358 seats.
The State Election Commission has not yet released an official statewide count of unopposed seats.
Jagan's charge
Jagan said his party could field candidates in only 20 of 40 wards in Pulivendula municipality, and that polling will happen in only 4 of 7 ZPTC seats there. He alleged that attempt-to-murder cases were registered against 924 people in Pulivendula. He said he will visit the town on the eve of polling and vote there.
The alliance's reply
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said the YSRCP had filed 62 petitions, on electoral rolls, delimitation and BC reservations, to obstruct the polls. Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan told Jagan, "If you present '2.0', we will present '10X'." Polling is due in early November.
