The Civil Supplies Department will implement a QR code system from November to curb the illegal diversion of ration rice distributed through the public distribution system. These codes will be printed on gunny bags containing fine rice.

This pilot project aims to enhance transparency in the supply, storage, and distribution of rice, while also controlling illegal activities.

In the initial phase, one crore gunny bags, intended for the distribution of five lakh tonnes of rice, will be marked with QR codes. The department is preparing to launch this new system starting in November.

Currently, a digital method is already in place through a physical verification app to prevent discrepancies in paddy stock and bag counts at mills. This new digital system will further strengthen these existing measures.
