Rahul Gandhi hosted a 'high-tea' meeting at his official residence in Delhi, where NSUI students injured in police action participated. The students recounted their experiences of the police assault to Rahul Gandhi.
The meeting also saw the presence of leaders from the India United Front, civil society activists involved in the anti-CEC movement, and representatives from youth and student organizations. NSUI students, specifically those who sustained injuries, met Rahul Gandhi to express their distress.
The protestors informed Rahul Gandhi that police dragged them on the roads and beat them indiscriminately. Rahul Gandhi expressed deep concern over these incidents.
Rahul Gandhi assured them that video evidence of the police assault would be collected and that measures would be taken to ensure appropriate punishment for those responsible. He also mentioned that Athira from Kerala had lost hearing in one ear due to the incident.
These incidents highlight attempts to suppress the right to protest in a democracy. This assurance provides comfort to students and youth organization representatives from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh who also face similar issues.
