Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said on Tuesday that the Telangana government would fill every vacant post in the State Police Department by 2028, speaking at the Police Commemoration Parade at the Police Martyrs Memorial in Goshamahal Police Stadium, Hyderabad.
He said the government was giving top priority to strengthening law and order. A notification had already been issued to recruit 5,000 police personnel, the Chief Minister told the gathering.
Revanth Reddy described the recruitment of 112 Deputy Superintendent of Police posts as unprecedented in Telangana’s history. The government was also appointing transgender persons as traffic assistants, which he said was a step towards ensuring dignity and self-respect for that community.
In a welfare announcement at the same event, he said ex-gratia paid to the families of Home Guards who die while on duty would rise from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh. He asked Anand to take the necessary steps to implement the decision.
The Chief Minister said compensation for police personnel who die in the line of duty had been enhanced across ranks. Ex-gratia for Head Constables and Assistant Sub-Inspectors has been raised from ₹45 lakh to ₹1 crore; for Sub-Inspectors and Inspectors, the amount has been increased to ₹1.25 crore.
Revanth Reddy attended the parade as the chief guest at the martyrs memorial inside the Goshamahal Police Stadium grounds. His staffing pledge applies to all vacant positions in the Telangana Police Department rather than a single cadre or unit.
He linked the already issued 5,000-post notification to the work needed to meet the 2028 hiring deadline. The enhanced line-of-duty benefits apply rank by rank to police personnel who die while performing duty, alongside the separate Home Guard ex-gratia increase that Anand was directed to put into effect through the required administrative steps.
The Police Commemoration Parade at the martyrs memorial was the venue for the announcements on Tuesday in Hyderabad. Revanth Reddy told those present that filling vacancies and the higher ex-gratia for Home Guards and for police who die on duty would move ahead as the government had decided, with Anand assigned to carry out the steps needed for the Home Guard payment change.
