RTC unions in Vijayawada have called on the state government to cancel private tenders for electric buses. They are demanding the immediate withdrawal of tenders issued to private parties for the operation of 1,450 electric buses.
JAC conveners Y. Srinivasa Rao and Palisetti Damodara Rao held a press conference on Monday in Vijayawada. They announced that APSRTC employees will conduct peaceful protests by wearing black badges on October 22 and 23.
Union leaders urged the government to avoid transferring RTC depots and associated infrastructure to private operators. They cautioned that such a move could undermine the state-run transport organization.
The conveners clarified that their objection is not to the introduction of electric buses themselves. Instead, they are against the privatization of their operation.
A plan for future protest actions will be announced in Vijayawada on October 26, according to the leaders.
