The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) on Friday began demolishing unauthorised commercial structures on defence land in Sikh Village. This action brings an end to a dispute that has spanned nearly 30 years.
The demolished properties included KJR Gardens and Viceroy Garden function halls. SCB officials stated that these facilities were being used commercially despite the land being designated for residential purposes.
The demolition operation commenced at approximately 5:30 am on Friday. Local residents initially resisted the action, prompting the deployment of police personnel to the site to prevent any law-and-order issues.
The SCB confirmed that this action followed a legal dispute that originated in 1996. At that time, the board approached the court seeking the removal of the function hall structures.
Officials explained that the board had pursued the case since 1996, when it first sought the demolition of the function halls through legal channels.
The demolition marks the SCB's successful resolution of a long-standing issue concerning the misuse of defence land for commercial activities.
