Repairs to the earthen bund of the Singur project in Sangareddy district are progressing slowly, with only 620 meters completed out of a total length of 2,416 meters. An additional 200 meters of work is currently underway.

Officials state this delay raises concerns about storing water at optimum levels during the upcoming monsoon season. Such a situation could affect irrigation and drinking water supplies across several districts.

The irrigation department initiated these repair works following recommendations from the national dam safety review panel (DSRP). The project involves repairing the 2,416-meter earthen dam on both sides of the crest gates.

The repair efforts began in May 2026, after all necessary procedures were finalized. The initial target for completion of these works was set for 2027.

The government allocated Rs 16 crore for these repairs, and the contract was awarded to Hyderabad-based Hima Sai Constructions.

Given the current pace, completing the repairs by the stipulated deadline appears challenging. Authorities need to address these delays promptly to ensure timely completion.
