The Supreme Court's holiday bench is set to hear a plea filed by the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party regarding alleged poll violence. Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana will preside over the hearing.
The court will conduct the hearing during the Dussehra holidays. The petition was filed by the party, which is led by former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The YSRCP has alleged that widespread violence prevented several of its candidates from successfully filing their nominations. These allegations will be a key focus of the court's proceedings.
The party has requested police protection for its candidates and an extension of the nomination deadline. It has also sought additional and alternative centers where candidates can safely submit their papers.
The same bench will also hear petitions filed by former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his relatives. These cases raise concerns over pre-FIR hearing rights and electoral access.
The Supreme Court's decision in these matters could have implications for electoral processes and candidate safety in future elections.
